Selection of participants
Based on the applications received for active participation selected candidates will be invited to the preliminary audition. Applicants will receive the results of this selection by email by August 10, 2025. The audition will take place on the first day of the Summer School (Sunday, August 31st 2025) at 6 pm. Among the pre-conducting candidates the conductors for active participation will then be admitted. Candidates who are not selected will have the opportunity to continue attending the Conducting Academy as passive participants.

Fees
Active participation
For the active participants selected by the preconference there will be a participation fee of 400 Euro (no meals and no accommodation will be provided). Part of the participation fees (€100) must be paid at the latest by August 15, 2025 after being invited to participate. The rest of the fees (€300) are to be paid on site.
Passive participation
For passive participants, a fee of 100 euros will be charged after confirmation of participation (meals or accomodation are not provided). The fee must be paid by August 15, 2025 at the latest.

From 31st of August to 5th of September 2025, the Saar University of Music is organizing the “10th HfM Saar Summer School” with a conducting academy under the direction of Prof. Georg Grün.
The conducting academy primarily deals with questions of interpretation, choral sound, intonation and their rehearsal and conducting implementation in a professional context. Particular attention is paid to the expression of the conduction through striking technique and the individual “conducting language” of the participants. This is realized by individual conducting lessons with Prof. Grün, by video coaching with international guests and by passive participation in the choir rehearsals as well as by individually conducting the KammerChor Saarbrücken.
Part of the lessons and rehearsals within this year’s Summer School will be offered via Internet video transmission to students from other German and foreign universities of music and other interested parties. Seminars, lectures and rehearsals by external lecturers from abroad are also made available for the participants of the summer school.

Die Dirigierakademie richtet sich an Studierende im Fach Chorleitung sowie KirchenmusikerInnen und junge NachwuchsdirigentInnen, die sich für ein Weiterbildungsstudium Chordirigat interessieren. Sie beschäftigt sich vorrangig mit Fragen der Interpretation, Chorklang, Intonation sowie deren proben- und dirigiertechnischer Umsetzung im professionellen Kontext. Ein besonderer Augenmerk liegt dabei auf dem Ausdruck des Dirigats durch Schlagtechnik, der individuellen „Dirigiersprache“ der TeilnehmerInnen und effektiver Probenmethodik. Dies erfolgt durch individuellen Dirigierunterricht bei Prof. Grün, durch Coaching per Live-Video-Übertragung mit internationalen Gästen, Austausch mit einem professionellen Vokalensemble und durch die passive Teilnahme an den Chorproben sowie dem eigenen Dirigieren des Akademieensembles.
Die Summer School kooperiert mit einem professionellen Videotechnik-Team, das nicht nur für die Live - Videoübertragung des didaktischen Angebots sorgt, sondern auch die Erstellung hochwertiger Videos ermöglicht. Diese professionellen Aufnahmen stehen den TeilnehmerInnen nicht nur für private, sondern auch für berufliche Zwecke zur Verfügung.
Arbeitsplan
- täglich drei Stunden Dirigierunterricht bei Prof. Georg Grün (fürpassive und aktive Teilnehmer) und weiteren DozentInnen
- täglich bis zu drei Stunden aktive Arbeit mit dem KammerChor Saarbrücken (nur für aktive Teilnehmer)
- Abschlusskonzert*
*Die aktiven Teilnehmer willigen ein, beim Abschlusskonzert zu dirigieren, falls sie von der Kommission dafür ausgewählt werden. Ein Anspruch auf ein Dirigat besteht nicht.

Web-Masterclasses und Online-Coaching
Ein Teil des Unterrichts und der Proben innerhalb der Summer School 2025 werden via Internet-Videoübertragung für Studierende anderer deutscher und ausländischer Musikhochschulen sowie Interessenten kostenlos auf YouTube angeboten. Ebenso werden Seminare, Vorlesungen und Coaching externer DozentenInnen aus dem Ausland zur Verfügung gestellt.
Das Akademieensemble
Eines der Ziele ist die Erarbeitung anspruchsvoller Chormusik unter professionellen Bedingungen. Das Akademieensemble, welches für die KandidatInnen zur Verfügung steht, ist mit SängerInnen des KammerChors Saarbrücken und professionellen SängerInnen aus dem Calmus Ensemble in jeder Stimmgruppe besetzt. Dieses Jahr wird die komplette Besetzung des renommierten Calmus Ensembles in dem Akademieensemble mitsingen und die Stimmführung in den Stimmregistern übernehmen. Interessierte passive (oder auch aktive) Teilnehmende sind bei ausreichender Qualifikation ebenfalls herzlich eingeladen im Chor mitzusingen.

Georg Grün darf sich international zu den gefragten Chordirigenten und Chorklangspezialisten zählen. Er gründete 1990 den KammerChor Saarbrücken und ist dessen künstlerischer Leiter bis heute. Mit diesem Ensemble gewann er wichtige internationale und nationale Chorwettbewerbe, er konzertiert auf vielen renommierten Musikfestivals und produziert regelmäßig CDs beim Carus-Verlag und bei Rondeau. Von 2000 bis 2012 hatte Georg Grün eine Professur für Chorleitung an der Musikhochschule Mannheim inne, mit deren neu gegründetem Kammerchor er ebenfalls zahlreiche internationale Preise gewann. 2012 wechselte Georg Grün als Professor an die Hochschule für Musik Saar und übernahm 2013 die Leitung der Ev. Chorgemeinschaft an der Saar. Als Gastdirigent, Juror und Dozent internationaler Meisterklassen für Chorleitung ist Georg Grün im In- und Ausland unterwegs. Er ist seit 2010 Mentor des Dirigentenforums des Deutschen Musikrats und seit 2015 Jury-Vorsitzender des renommierten Int. Kammerchorwettbewerbs Marktoberdorf. Konzerte, Jurortätigkeiten, Meisterkurse und Gastdirigate führen ihn 2016 u. a. nach Italien, Frankreich, Irland, Spanien und Polen.

Johannes Weiler studierte am Peter Cornelius Konservatorium Mainz sowie der Hochschule für Musik Saar die Fächer Trompete, Schulmusik, Musikerziehung und Dirigieren bei unter anderem Prof. Peter Leiner und Prof. Georg Grün, zu seinen Lehrern zählten außerdem Prof. Toshiyuki Kamioka, Prof. Manuel Nawri und Christian von Blohn. Weitere wichtige Impulse erhielt er von Stefan Weiler, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Johannes Klumpp, Stan Engebretson (Washington D.C.), Patrick Gardner (New Jersey), Ko Matsushita (Japan), Gary Graden (Stockholm), Brady Alred (Saltlake City).
Johannes Weiler ist Chefdirigent des Saarknappenchors, mit dem er eine rege Konzerttätigkeit von über 20 Konzerten im Jahr ausübt, sowie CD – Produktionen in Kooperation mit dem Saarländischen Rundfunk. Des Weiteren ist er Leiter des Orchester- und Chorbüros der Hochschule für Musik Saar und ChorWerkSaar, sowie Dozent für Chor- und Ensembleleitung an der HfM-Saar. Zusätzlich ist Johannes Weiler Organisatorischer Leiter, Dozent und Regisseur des Livestreamings der HfM-Saar Summerschool.
The Conducting Academy is aimed at students of choral conducting, as well as church musicians and young conductors interested in pursuing advanced studies in choral conducting. It primarily focuses on issues of interpretation, choral sound, intonation, and their implementation in rehearsal and conducting techniques in a professional context. Particular emphasis is placed on the expression of conducting through conducting technique, the participants' individual "conducting language," and effective rehearsal methods. This is achieved through individual conducting lessons with Prof. Grün, coaching via live video broadcast with international guests, exchange with a professional vocal ensemble, and passive participation in choir rehearsals as well as conducting the academy ensemble.
The Summer School cooperates with a professional video technology team that not only ensures the video transmission of the didactic offering, but also enables the creation of high-quality videos. These professional recordings are available to participants not only for private but also for professional purposes.

* Active participants agree to conduct the final concert if selected by the musical director. There is no entitlement to conducting.

Web masterclasses and online coaching
Some of the lessons and rehearsals during the 2025 Summer School will be offered free of charge via video transmission on YouTube for students from other German and foreign music academies, as well as for interested parties. Seminars, lectures, and coaching sessions with external lecturers from abroad will also be available.
The academy ensemble
One of the goals is to develop challenging choral music under professional conditions. The academy ensemble, which is available to the candidates, is made up of singers from the Saarbrücken Chamber Choir and professional singers from the Calmus Ensemble in every vocal group. This year, the entire lineup of the renowned Calmus Ensemble will sing in the academy ensemble and assume the vocal lead in the vocal registers. Interested passive (or active) participants are also cordially invited to join the choir, provided they have sufficient qualifications.

Georg Grün ranks among the most sought-after choral conductors and choral sound specialists in the world. In 1990, he founded the KammerChor Saarbrücken and remains its artistic director today. With the ensemble he has won major international and national choir competitions, has performed at many renowned music festivals and has regularly produced CDs for Carus-Verlag and Rondeau. Between 2000 and 2012 Georg Grün was professor of choral conducting at the Musikhochschule Mannheim, with whose newly-formed Chamber Choir he also won numerous international prizes. In 2012, Georg Grün was appointed professor at the HfM University of Music Saar, and in 2013 took on the role of conductor of the Ev. Chorgemeinschaft an der Saar. Georg Grün travels extensively both in Germany and abroad as a guest conductor, adjudicator and teacher of international master classes in choral conducting. Since 2010, he has been a mentor of the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council and since 2015, chairman of the jury at the renowned International Chamber Choir Competition Marktoberdorf. In 2016 concerts, adjudicator work, master classes and guest conducting engagements will take him, among other places, to Italy, France, Ireland, Spain and Poland.

Johannes Weiler studied trumpet, school music, music education, and conducting at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz and the Saarland University of Music with, among others, Prof. Peter Leiner and Prof. Georg Grün. Johannes Weiler is the chief conductor of the Saarknappenchor, with which he performs over 20 concerts a year, as well as CD productions in cooperation with Saarländischer Rundfunk. He is also the head of the Orchestra and Choral Office at the Saar University of Music and ChorWerkSaar, as well as a lecturer for choral and ensemble conducting at the Saar University of Music. Johannes Weiler is also the organizational director, lecturer, and director of the livestreaming of the Saar University of Music Summer School.
