How can I apply to the HfM Saar?

You can apply via our online application portal.

What documents are required for the application?

The following documents are required for your application:

  • Current, tabular CV
  • University entrance qualification
  • Scan of your ID card/passport
  • Proof of payment of the aptitude test fee
  • Examination program in accordance with the aptitude test regulations
  • Language certificate for foreign applicants
  • Transcript of Records
  • Bachelor/Master certificate
I am having problems with the application process in the SIM portal. What can I do?

When are the application periods?

The application period for starting studies in the winter semester is from December 15th to March 14th.

The application period for starting studies in the summer semester is from August 1st to November 28th.

 

When do the aptitude tests take place?

The aptitude tests for the winter semester usually take place in May and the aptitude tests for the summer semester in January. The examination periods are also published on our homepage under www.hfmsaar.de/termine-fristen. The exact dates and times will of course be communicated to you in good time.

Does the application also have to be submitted in paper form?

No, you just have to submit the application via our online application portal. You can upload the required documents directly to the portal.

How much is the aptitude test fee?

The aptitude test fee for applicants is €50.

For students already enrolled at the HfM Saar, who are applying for an additional study program, the fee is €24.

Do I have to pay the aptitude test fee for each application if I apply for multiple courses?

No, the aptitude test fee only has to be paid once, even for multiple applications.

Can the aptitude test fee be refunded if I withdraw my application?

No, a refund of the aptitude test fee is not possible, even if the application is withdrawn. Please be aware of this.

Can the aptitude test fee also be paid in cash?

No, the fee can only be transferred.

How much is the semester fee?

The semester fee is currently €360.90 per semester (as of summer semester 2025). However, fees vary and may change each semester, this is a guide only.

What are the requirements for the aptitude test / what repertoire needs to be prepared?

What language certificate do foreign students need?

Applicants and students who come from abroad need a TestDaF3 or a B1 language certificate. This must be submitted by the time of enrollment. If this is not the case, you will be enrolled conditionally and given a deadline by which proof of language skills must be submitted (usually by the 2nd semester). If you are unable to provide proof of language skills by the set deadline, you will be exmatriculated.

Does the required language certificate have to be submitted when applying?

No, the language certificate can be submitted at a later date. This must be submitted by the time of enrollment. If this is not the case, you will be enrolled conditionally and given a deadline by which proof of language skills must be submitted (usually by the 2nd semester). If you are unable to provide proof of language skills by the set deadline, you will be exmatriculated.

Is proof of language skills mandatory?

Yes, this is an admission requirement for foreign applicants in order to be able to enroll unconditionally. The lessons are held in German, so we ensure that you are able to follow the lessons.

Can I apply for several study programs at the same time?

Yes, that is possible. You can submit multiple applications via the online application portal.

Where can I find out about the different study programs?

On our homepage you will find detailed information about all study programs.

Do the aptitude tests only take place in person or is an online entrance test also possible?

The aptitude tests take place in person on the premises of the HfM Saar. An online aptitude test is only possible in justified exceptional cases and must be requested in writing.

Is there a preliminary round via video?

No, there is no preliminary round via video. The entrance examinations take place in person on the premises of the HfM Saar. An online aptitude test is only possible in justified exceptional cases and must be requested in writing.

Can I have parts of the aptitude test recognized?

If you have previously studied at another music college and are perhaps even changing university, you can usually have the theory and minor subject exams recognized. To do this, please send an email to Ms. Barbara Hartz (b.hartz@hfm.saarland.de) with the relevant evidence, such as a transcript of records.

Can I practice at the HfM Saar before the aptitude test?

You have the opportunity to practice and prepare for around 20-30 minutes before your exam. In addition, it is unfortunately not possible to use the HfM Saar's premises for practice.

When will I receive the result of my aptitude test?

You will receive your final decision with the results of the aptitude test approx. 2-3 weeks after the aptitude test. Admission notices can only be sent after the admissions conference, which usually takes place two weeks after the aptitude test week. Rejection notices may be sent earlier.
